A Shot is a poignant leadership tip from “a rifle.”  Yes, leadership coach, Tom Newhouse, uses a rifle from his farming heritage to “tell it like it is.” —

YOU’VE GOT TO HAVE IT!  Or, I’ve got to have it.  I laugh.  Yes, I, a rifle—and a single shot at that—laugh at the idea that desire alone will produce results.  I never saw a good marksman that did not put in the time to learn and practice.  Good marksmen develop good habits—reliable, consistent habits.  Then in times of challenge, be they on a hunt or in a competition, they “have it.”
So, the point is “you gotta habit!”  For sure that goes for leaders.  You want to perform well in crisis?  Then develop faithful habits beforehand.  Know also that small habits, especially when linked together, produce big results.  Think of them as your personal system.  Just like an effective, robust operational system produces consistently regardless of fluctuations and pressures, so too, can your personal system be robust and effective.  Determine what needs to be learned; then develop corresponding habits—value producing, value sustaining habits.
