Shot 93: HUNTING IN THE DARK

By: Tom Newhouse in Leadership, 4 weeks ago

A Shot is a poignant leadership tip from “a rifle.”  Yes, leadership coach, Tom Newhouse, uses a rifle from his farming heritage to “tell it like it is.” —

I DON’T RECOMMEND IT.  We rifles are not nocturnal by nature.  Oh, there are night vision devices that allow some sight, but they are limited and seeing what is downrange is nearly impossible.  Hunting at night is dangerous; it’s stupid.
I’ve seen leaders hunt at night.  I was not impressed.  Rudy would not have approved either.  Among his mottos was, “make hay while the sun is shining.”  Sure, get ready to execute.  Plan your moves.  Then when the time is right, go for it, and press your team into action.  It will be empowered when the timing is right; it will be frustrated, confused, and demotivated, if compelled when the timing is wrong.
