Shot 45: ANNIE OAKLEY

By: Tom Newhouse in Leadership, 10 months ago

A Shot is a poignant leadership tip from “a rifle.”  Yes, leadership coach, Tom Newhouse, uses a rifle from his farming heritage to “tell it like it is.” —

THAT GAL COULD SHOOT!  Whew…ee!  For years she was a star performer on stages across the United Sates and Europe.  Yep, a good shot and great performer.  She was the right kind of performer:  She not only had great talk, she had a great walk.  In the world of “put up or shut up,” she put up.  Her money was where her mouth was.  Ever heard “big hat, no cattle”?  That was not Annie.

Okay, you big shot leaders.  Save your performance for getting results, not flashing promotional banners.  Nope.  Let your actions speak.  If you have walked well, you have earned the right to talk.  But I ask that you do so with humility, and use your talk to benefit others.  Perhaps you can teach, coach, mentor.  If the road you traveled taught you wisdom, act like it.
