Have You Lost Your Confidence Somewhere?
You can thank Amy.
Amy is your Amygdala.
She is part of your ancient reptilian brain and her soul purpose is to keep you safe. She’s responsible for your fight or flight reaction in your brain. She truly just loves you and wants to protect you and keep you out of harms way… as she defines it.
Sometimes, she gets it right.
Other times, she’s wayyyy off base, which keeps you locked inside of your “comfort zone,” keeping you from sharing your natural brilliance, talents and expertise out there in the world.
Filling you with self-doubt about your abilities on how to expand your career, grow your business, create financial success, find your true calling or even attract the love of your life.
Amy Is Responsible For Killing Your Confidence.
She’s the one that is whispering in your ear a myriad of beliefs you have about yourself that is keeping feeling stuck and not able to move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Left unchecked, Amy (i.e. your fears) will run you ragged and leave you filled with regret.
See if any of her favorite Top 5 ways to kill your confidence are negatively impacting your success.
Confidence Killer Number 5:Habit of Discontent.
Nothing is ever quite right. Something is Always going wrong. You are weighed down by a constant state of dissatisfaction and discontent that leaves you complaining and moaning about how you can’t do XYZ… [fill in the blank].
This habit of discontent can easily lead to a habit of busyness to avoid the discontent, creating a vicious cycle. These negative thoughts and habits keep your body in a constant state of stress with cortisol running through your veins as well. Over time, this constant state of ‘dis-ease’ can lead to disease and illness in a host of different ways.
Remedy: Find the good things that are going right in your life and focus your thoughts there instead. Even if it’s just the littlest of things. An Attitude Of Gratitude is a powerful force.
Your positive thoughts create a cascade of emotions, which creates a release of happy chemicals in your brain (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin & Endorphins). All of which have positive health benefits, boost your immune system and make you feel good.
Confidence Killer Number 4:Caught in the ‘What If?’ Swirl.
This is when Amy latches onto a negative idea and then you spin and spin on that negative thought, playing out all the worst case possible case scenarios in your mind of what could go wrong. Leaving you ‘What If’ing and Should’ing all over yourself.
Remedy: Instead of expecting the worst things to happen, try playing the “What If UP Game” with yourself.
Focus on the good things that can happen and then what that goodness can lead to and then what that goodness can lead to as you spiral your thoughts upward in a positive direction while expanding your mind as to what IS possible and sparking your creativity.
Confidence Killer Number 3: Toxic Environments.
If you’re surrounded by negative people as well as toxic environments in various places in your life, it’s important that you understand that they are having a major impact on how you see yourself and what is or isn’t possible. The science of Epigeneticshas proven that a toxic environment of negative energy (whether that is mental, emotional or physical) is having a detrimental impact on your actual physiology, as well as your attitude. Which in turn, can literally change how effectively the 50 trillion cells in your body function or don’t function.
Remedy: Notice who is bringing you down or lifting you up in your day-to-day relationships.
It might be time to purge some not-so-healthy relationships from your life or at least down grade the amount of time you’re spending with them so they don’t impact your well-being. You can also surround yourself with visual reminders of things that lift you up and make you smile like some fresh flowers, or a picture of a favorite place that makes you happy. These visual and olfactory cues can have a calming effect to help bring your body back to a more relaxed and healthy state of being.
Confidence Killer Number 2:Focusing On Your Failures.
Failure is how we learn but when you constantly focus on what you’re doing wrong, then it can pull you down into a pit of quicksand that can be hard to get out of. Leading to deeply rooted self-doubt and a lack of belief in your abilities and talents.
Remedy: Learn what you need to learn from your mistakes and Move On.
Apply that learning as you envision your successful next steps in your mind’s eye. This is a way of pre-paving your success as you get your body and mind on board and continue to expand your expertise and confidence. And each time you up-level your skills and have a small or big win, be sure to take time to celebrate! Celebrating releases the happy chemicals Serotonin and Dopamine in your brain and makes you feel good! Creating a new, positively reinforced habit of behavior at a cellular level.
Confidence Killer Number 1: I Am Not Enough.
This highly popular limiting belief is the number one reason at the root of so many fears and dysfunctions. When you tell yourself on a regular basis “I am not ‘something’ enough” (fill in the blank with any of your favorites… not loveable enough, not smart enough, not capable enough, not talented enough, etc…), then you are literally creating negative neural pathways in your brain. And each time Amy thinks there is a threat, this familiar pathway in your brain will get activated, keeping you hiding out inside your comfort zone, holding you back and crushing your confidence.
Remedy: Tell yourself everyday these three little words: “I Am Enough.” Rinse, Repeat.
The more you tell yourself you are enough, the more you will start to believe it. Your brain loves repetition and with this repetition you’re literally rewiring new positive neural pathways in your brain, which become the new “Go To” pathway in times of stress.
Ultimately helping you feel more confident in yourself and your abilities to conquer your fears, take more calculated risks and expand what’s possible in your life both personally and professionally. And in the process, raising your energy, your outlook, your mood and your circumstances.
If you’re finding that Amy is bringing you down, zapping you of your confidence and maybe even causing chronic stress, sleepless nights and any myriad of health issues like depression, anxiety, or weight gain, then it’s time to rewire your brain for more confidence.
