“An affirmation opens the door.
It’s a beginning point on the path to change.”
~Louise L. Hay~
Are you new to the use of affirmations or you have used them before but, have given up because they don’t seem to be working? They really do work and it is an easy thing to add to your daily routines! I am amazed at how effective Positive Affirmations are. I personally have used affirmations successfully for my health as well as in other areas of my life.
First of all, affirmations are simply positive statements either in writing or orally/audibly that describe a desired situation, and which are repeated many times, in order to program or reprogram the subconscious mind and trigger it into positive action. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the affirmations, they have to be repeated with attention, conviction, interest and desire. Every thought you think, every word you say is an affirmation. All of our self-talk or inner dialogue is a stream of affirmations. We are continually affirming subconsciously with our words and thoughts and this flow of affirmations is creating our life experience in every moment. Every affirmation we think or say is a reflection of our inner truth or beliefs. It is important to realize that many of these “inner truths” may not actually be true for us now or may be based on invalid or inappropriate impressions we constructed as children, which if examined as an adult can be exposed as inappropriate. Every successful person has used affirmations, knowingly or unknowingly.
There is science to back up their use. The Reticular Activator System (RAS) is an automatic mechanism inside your brain that serves as a filter between your conscious and subconscious mind bringing relevant information to your attention and it plays a vital role in your ability to achieve goals. It works as a group of brain cells that sorts through all the incoming data and stimuli you encounter and gives you notice of the important things. It is like a secretary who makes you aware of all the stuff you believe are significant to you.
The RAS filters out zillions of messages your five senses are constantly passing along and decides which ones are essential to you. So, what you FOCUS on will come to you. Now, keep in mind that the RAS does not distinguish between positive or negative memories. Your inborn secretary is only attached to deep felt emotions and focuses on events or stuff that is important to you. With that said, don’t you want to ensure that you are “feeding” your RAS positive statements?
When affirmations don’t work, here are some reasons why:
Many people do not know what positive affirmations to use for maximum effectiveness.
Many people don’t have the discipline to keep repeating the affirmations regularly until they see results. This makes them think that the whole notion of using affirmations is overhyped and ineffective.
Many people repeat positive affirmations for a few minutes, and then think negatively the rest of the day. This neutralizes the effects of the positive words. You have to refuse to think negative thoughts, if you wish to attain positive results.
In order for affirmations to be effective make sure:
They are believable.
You repeat them often throughout the day.
They are positive.
You say/hear them with conviction and passion.
You use the present tense.
You personalize them.
Here are some examples of some effective positive affirmations:
Success is flowing into my life and I gladly embrace it.
I am healthy and happy.
I am surrounded by love.
I am calm and relaxed in every situation.
Everything is getting better every day.
I have a lot of energy.
No matter what aspect of life you’re dealing with or who you are, affirmations will not only make you feel better about yourself and your life. But if used correctly, they can manifest real change in your life. Changing the way you think, reprogramming your mind and removing the old negative beliefs that have been sabotaging you again and again throughout your life. They can enable you to achieve the life you’ve always wanted for yourself!
“Only one thing registers on the subconscious mind:
repetitive application – practice.
What you practice is what you manifest.”
“As long as you know what it is you desire, then by simply affirming that it is yours — firmly and positively, with no ifs, buts, or maybes — over and over again, from the minute you arise in the morning until the time you go to sleep at night, and as many times during the day as your work or activities permit, you will be drawn to those people, places, and events that will bring your desires to you.”
“It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief.
And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”
